Funded hours

15 & 30 funded hours, without the jargon.

Government-funded childcare can genuinely transform your bill, but the rules take some untangling. Here's the short version.

15 hrs/week

For every 3 & 4 year old

All children get 15 funded hours a week from the term after their third birthday, term time. There's no eligibility test, and no paperwork beyond a code. Eligible 2-year-olds can get 15 hours too.

30 hrs/week

For eligible working families

Working parents who each earn above the minimum threshold (and under £100k) can claim up to 30 funded hours a week, with funded hours now available from 9 months old.

51 weeks

Stretch it across the year

Funded hours are based on 38 school weeks, but we can "stretch" them across our 51-week year: fewer hours each week, but cover in the holidays too.

Not sure what you're entitled to? Bring your questions when you visit. We'll sit down with you, check what applies to your family on the government's Childcare Choices service, and show you exactly what your monthly bill would look like. Funded hours cover care and education; a small daily charge applies for meals and consumables during funded-only sessions.

Settling in

Gentle beginnings, at your child's pace.

Most children take two or three visits to feel at home; some take a few more. There's no charge for settling-in sessions, and no rush.

Come and look round

Visit during a normal morning, meet the team, and see the rooms mid-play. Bring your child, and all your questions.

Stay-and-play visits

Two relaxed sessions where you stay in the room together. Your child explores; your key person starts learning what makes them tick.

Short solo sessions

A couple of hours without you, building up gradually. We'll text you updates. Most parents need them more than the children do.

The first proper day

By now your child knows the room, the faces and where the good toys live. Your key person will call you at lunchtime, just because.

Questions

Things parents always ask us.

What does my child need to bring?
Very little: a named bag with a change of clothes, a comforter if they have one, and wellies to live on their peg. We provide meals, snacks, nappies, wipes and sun cream, and we do the messy-clothes laundry so you don't have to.
How do naps and sleep work?
Babies in Acorns sleep to their own routine in a dedicated sleep space, checked and logged throughout. Older children who need a nap have one after lunch; those who don't enjoy quiet time with books and soft music instead. We'll always follow your lead on sleep.
What happens if my child is unwell?
If your child becomes unwell at nursery, we'll call you straight away and keep them comfortable with their key person until you arrive. We follow standard exclusion guidance for infectious illnesses, and we'll give you a copy of our sickness policy when you register.
Can we change or add sessions later?
Yes. You can request changes with a month's notice and we'll accommodate them whenever space allows. Extra ad-hoc days are often possible too; just ask at the office and we'll do our best.
Do you take tax-free childcare and vouchers?
We do. We accept payments from the government's tax-free childcare scheme and all major childcare voucher providers, alongside funded hours. If you're juggling more than one scheme, we'll happily help you work out the sums.
How do funded hours work day to day?
You claim your code, we verify it, and the funded hours simply come off your bill, and you'll see the deduction itemised on every invoice. You can use funded hours term-time only or stretched across 51 weeks, and top up with paid sessions however suits your week.
